Scrolls for Swedish!
This summer I’ve been trying out organic suncare from Biosolis. Biosolis relies on physical sun protection (mainly Titanium Dioxide) and is suited for sensitive skin. What makes them differ from other organic suncare brands is that they also include Pongamia Glabra Seed Oil (Karanja oil) in their products. Karanja extracts have recently been found to be a new alternative to boosting sun protection. As the study concludes:
“Pongamol and karanjin extracts were found to be extremely good absorbents of the UV rays in the UVA and B regions, we can positively conclude that the seed of P. pinnata contain such photo-absorptive compounds which when put together in a single herbal formulation like ointments, lotions or creams can give rise to an extremely effective sunscreen preparation showing its protective action throughout the broad ultraviolet region. The plant oil extracts can be used along with other established standard drugs, as it will enhance and effectively contribute to the UV absorbing properties of the sunscreen.” – Determination of In -Vitro Sunscreen Activity of Pongamia Pinnata (L.) Biosolis | Melt-In Cream SPF30 & Sun Spray SPF50*
I brought these two with me on our trip to Crete, in the middle of heated August, to really see how well they protect. Even though we rented a car in the hope of seeing what this Island had to offer, we still felt like applying suncream every day was important, as we would still be outside regardless. We didn’t want to be in a different country and have to stay inside from being sunburnt. Anyway, the melt-in cream won the Swedish Organic Beauty Awards earlier this year, so I was very excited to test it out!
Both include perfume, but very mildly, and to the point that you understand that if they didn’t include some sort of scent this might’ve not smelled any good. I’d describe the scent very much like Pai’s rosehip oil if you’ve ever smelled it before. Otherwise, “play dough” is what comes to my head. As I’m an advocate of avoiding perfume as much as possible in skincare products, I have to say that this one is okay to use and shouldn’t feel disturbing on the skin. But everyone’s different.
Sun Spray
As my boyfriend got burned on the first day in Fuerteventura by spending as little as 10-15 minutes in the sun earlier this year, we weren’t taking any chances with the Cretan August sun! Because of his lighter Scandinavian skin, my boyfriend got to be the main test-bunny of this sunscreen as he was the only one who could provide some fair results. The Sun Spray is very liquid and therefore it’s in a spray bottle. It’s easy to work into the skin and dries without feeling sticky. It does leave a somewhat white cast on the skin, but still better than most physical sunscreens. I was a bit skeptic on how well it would work, as it only contains Titanium Dioxide, which is mostly known to protect best from UVB. However, it’s the UVB that causes sunburns. Overall, this sunscreen helped my boyfriend protect his neck, shoulders, chest, and back the first days. He still got a decent tan, but without the burn!
Melt-in Cream
This one comes out as a thick cream that, like the name suggests, melts into your skin when you massage it in. This one leaves almost no white residue if you take your time with it. If you’re quick, it will show. The melt-in cream can feel a bit more sticky, especially in hot weather. However, I kind of liked that about it. I would usually use it on my decolletage, shoulders, and arms, and it would have that glowing look of suntan oil. I don’t know about you, but that’s a positive glow! Half-in our vacation, my boyfriend switched to this one, as his skin started to adjust. And he also very much liked the way this one disappeared into the skin without looking like you obviously have sunscreen on. It also felt very hydrating and didn’t get stuck on any leg- and arm-hair.

Conclusion
We survived the Cretan sun with no sunburns. It’s been a week since we got home, and the tan isn’t peeling off in batches either! So I’ll call Biosolis a success! We both enjoyed the melt-in cream so much that we almost finished the whole bottle through the 8 days we spent in Crete! We’re definitely planning on repurchasing it for next summer vacation! You can never have too much suncream after all. And finding the best one is equally as important, especially if you’re going to somewhere like Crete. I’m intrigued to also test out their suntan oil with SPF from solely Karanja oil, and perhaps add the after-sun milk, as I felt that I had forgotten to pack a hydrating body lotion.
