I wanted something gentle and less active to clean my face with while undergoing skin treatments and decided to test the Estelle & Thild Fragrance-Free Cleansing Gel.
Estelle & Thild | Fragrance-Free Cleansing Gel
★★☆☆☆
This cleansing gel from Estelle & Thild is very simple. It comes out colorless and with a natural scent similar to aloe vera gel. Which is quite obvious as aloe vera juice is the base of this formula. The only active in this cleanser is Elderflower extract. Fun Fact: Elderflower is the oldest herb cultivated by man, and has been used for over 4,000 years by natural healers that relied on it to treat asthma, allergies, and more.
This cleanser worked great and was gentle enough to use during the peeling phase of my skin treatments. It wouldn’t remove makeup that well, but I wasn’t wearing much at the time anyway. And it didn’t feel drying or disturbing to my skin’s balance at all.
However, I wouldn’t necessarily buy this again. And it’s simply because of three reasons:
- It’s super simple to the point of boring. If you got super sensitive skin or going through invasive skin treatments, it’s a good cleanser, don’t get me wrong. But, you can get much cheaper cleansers at the pharmacy that does the same or a better job. I also can’t imagine the fragrance-version being more interesting. This cleanser doesn’t remove makeup properly, and you would need to either use a gentle makeup remover before this or a toner after. Which brings us to the next issue…
- It’s quite expensive for this type of simple formula. It only got two organic and active ingredients, still it’s almost about €20! I knew what I was buying, but I personally think a product this simple and gentle shouldn’t cost more than €10.
- Not only is it not a complete effective cleanser that’s overpriced, the packaging sucks too! This is actually the icing on the cake and why I will not be buying it ever again. The tube packaging is so inconvenient and makes you use more product than you need. (Being 2 people who shared it) It lasted me barely 2 months! I’ve bought cleansers at the same price-class and they’ve lasted me at least over 3 months. But I would also blame the gel-like formula, it doesn’t feel very effective and perhaps you unconsciously take more. But I know this issue would all be resolved if this cleansing gel came in a more convenient pump dispenser, and maybe that would justify its price.
Conclusion
I usually don’t write negative reviews, and if you see me buying something that doesn’t end up on the blog, it’s usually because it didn’t impress me enough to spend time writing about it. Nonetheless, I don’t hate this cleanser, but it disappointed me. Big time. Besides this cleanser, I’ve only experienced good things with Estelle & Thild, but I haven’t tried the new formulas. I used to use their fragrance-free cleansing milk that I really liked, but I don’t know if I would like the new formula as it’s just as the cleansing gel but more creamy. But I would bet it’s a little more effective taking off makeup at least.
